A partial solar eclipse occurred at the Moon’s ascending node of orbit on March 29, 2025, with a magnitude of 0.9376. It was poetically nicknamed José Zorrilla’s eclipse honoring the 208th anniversary of the birth (1817) and the 132nd anniversary of the death (1893). A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A partial solar eclipse occurs in the polar regions of the Earth when the center of the Moon's shadow misses the Earth. The partial eclipse was visible for parts of the northeastern United States, eastern Canada, Greenland, Europe, northwest Africa, and northwestern Russia.
