John Devon Roland Pertwee (; 7 July 1919 – 20 May 1996), known professionally as Jon Pertwee, was an English actor. He made many appearances on television, film and in the theatre throughout the 1950s and 1960s, but is best known for playing the third incarnation of the Doctor in the long-running science fiction series Doctor Who (1970–1974) and the title character in Worzel Gummidge (1979–1981 and 1987–1989). Other notable roles included Chief Petty Officer Pertwee (and three other characters) in the BBC Radio sitcom The Navy Lark (1959–1977) and appearing in four films in the Carry On series (1964–1992). He also hosted the game show Whodunnit? (1974–1978). Towards the end of his life, Pertwee maintained a close association with Doctor Who by appearing at many fan conventions related to the series and giving interviews.
