Ali Shamkhani (born 29 September 1955) is an Iranian naval officer and politician who served as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran from 2013 to 2023. He formerly served as commander of both the IRGC Navy and the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy. He is a member of the Expediency Discernment Council of Iran and political advisor of the Supreme Leader of Iran since 2023. He was also one of the political appointees overseeing the 2025 Iran-United States negotiations aimed at reaching a nuclear peace agreement. In June 2025, Iranian official Ali Shamkhani was severely injured in an Israeli airstrike during the Iran–Israel war. Initial reports mistakenly claimed he had been killed, but he later reappeared in public.
