2026 New York gubernatorial election

The 2026 New York gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026, to elect the governor of New York. Incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul is running for re-election to a second term. Primary elections will take place on June 23, 2026. The candidates for governor will select their lieutenant governor, instead of having separate primaries. Nassau County executive Bruce Blakeman is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. After U . representative Elise Stefanik withdrew from the Republican primary in December 2025, Blakeman was endorsed by President Donald Trump. Republicans have not won a statewide election in New York since George Pataki was re-elected governor in 2002.
