The 2025 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2025, to elect the lieutenant governor of Virginia. The incumbent Republican lieutenant governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, did not run for a second term in office, instead choosing to run for governor. Primary elections took place on June 17, 2025. The in-person early voting period ran from September 19 to November 1, 2025. Hashmi won the general election and will take office on January 17, 2026. The Republican nominee was former WRVA radio host John Reid, who would have been Virginia's first openly gay lieutenant governor if elected. The Democratic nominee was state senator Ghazala Hashmi, who will be Virginia's first Asian and Muslim lieutenant governor. She is also the first Muslim woman elected to statewide office in US history.
