1993 New York City mayoral election

The 1993 New York City mayoral election was held on Tuesday, November 2. Incumbent Mayor David Dinkins ran for re-election to a second term, but lost in a rematch with Republican Rudy Giuliani. This was the first time since 1965 that a Republican won a mayoral election in New York City. Democrats would not win a mayoral election again until 2013. This was the second of two elections in a row where the incumbent mayor lost re-election.
